A Memorable Memorial Day Weekend

26 May

midtown, girl, walking
Hello SLH readers! I wanted to pop in before the weekend and say a quick hi.

Memorial Day is the official start for summer and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Normally I’m a fan of fall/winter but I’ve changed my tune! I’m ready for sunny days, warm weather, beach vacations, and most of all, plenty of time with close friends and family.

Speaking of which, I’m actually jetting out of town tonight to spend this holiday with my lovelies in California.

On my agenda: parking it on the beach, late-night drinks with friends, time with my family, and lots of guacamole & chips. Oh, and I fully plan on putting my camera to good use so get ready!

I hope you all have a splendid weekend… See you next Tuesday :)

Clinton St. Baking Company

16 Mar

I had the pleasure of eating at Clinton St. Baking Company.

Folks, I waited 2 hours for these pancakes. TWO HOURS. For someone who never waits for anything, I was quite proud of myself.

Weekend plans

5 Nov

This weekend, some will be working. Others will be running the hard 26.2 miles in the NYC marathon. And I?

I will be writing non-stop for a couple of papers. In between paper sessions, I will be making frequent visits to City Bakery where I will eat my weight in their Hot Pretzel Croissant.

Holiday Weekend in D.C.

7 Sep

This weekend, I jumped on a train to our nation’s gorgeous capitol. The sun was bright, the breeze was blowing, and people were out in full force. I managed to squeeze in all the major sights (White House, Capitol, Library Congress, Arlington National Cemetary, National Archives, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, FDR Memorial, the Smithsonian, and the Lincoln Memorial) in two days. Phew, I get tired just thinking about all the walking I did, but I was a determined girl. Being a big historical geek, I soaked up as much as possible and ton numerous photos.

Not only did I get to see all of Washington D.C.’s major landmarks, I got to walk around the downtown area and admire all the beautiful architecture. After spending two weeks in New York, you can imagine how a night without sirens or honking horns spoiled me. Plus, I had a huge king size bed all to myself! I definitely lived it up.

I hope those American readers had a lovely holiday weekend soaking up the last bits of summer. For the rest of you, I hope you relaxed a bit as well. Stay tuned because later this week I have a super summer recipe that will make you swoon. Seriously.

Hey everyone… I wanted to pop in before the holiday weekend. I took a day off to catch up with family, snap some pictures, and soak up the sun (hopefully). It’s Memorial Day weekend here in the states and I plan on spending it doing all the things I love with people I love.  It wouldn’t be possible without the support and dedication of the troops overseas, both past and present. I hope you all remember what this holiday is all about, and for you international folks, happy weekend!

Salad tales + goodbye April

23 Apr

You know it’s spring when the weeks start to fly by. I looked at my calendar this morning in early morning haze and couldn’t believe my eyes. One week till the end of April?! Insane! I had great plans to celebrate springs arrival and lo and behold spring is almost over! Oh well… That just means I will push all my picnic parties and road trip plans to May.

However, I couldn’t let this week pass by without telling you about the most delicious salad I had the privilege of eating last week. This farmers market salad from Pronto’s was comprised of roasted chicken, mixed greens, corn, avocado, tomatoes, almonds, cornbread croutons, and a creamy tarragon dressing.

Did you read that? Cornbread croutons. Avocado. Tarragon dressing.

I was literally in heaven. I know I say that a lot but this salad made me swoon. The flavors and various textures blended together and created an unforgettable dish. The cornbread croutons were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The avocado was perfectly ripe and balanced the creamy Tarragon dressing. The original dish comes with dates and goat cheese but I’m not a fan of either so I left them off. I am looking to fix a homemade version of this beloved salad during the weekend. I don’t know if I can do cornbread croutons since a pan of cornbread is more likely to be devoured with a big bowl of chili than in a salad. However, I will try my best.

I hope you all have a delightful and delicious weekend. Enjoy your April before it’s too late!

Another Monday

19 Apr

Here we are, on another Monday.

How was your weekend? I hope you had enough time to do whatever it is that you needed.

I’m simply wishing for a longer weekend…

So much sun, I think it might have left me intoxicated.

April is passing by so quickly, it makes my head spin.

One Word

12 Apr

If there is one word that best describes my weekend, it’s delicious. Both days I enjoyed the best food with the best company. From an avocado burger to strawberry nutella crepe and ending with some addicting triple chocolate chip cookies that are destined to make an appearence on this blog, I ate to my true heart’s content. Have you ever had a weekend where you truly ate from your heart? I know it’s a weird concept but whether it’s comfort food or light fare, sometimes the best way to connect with the present is through the stomach. I’m curious as to what you all enjoyed over the weekend. Drop a line; I’m dying to hear!

Even though I’ve got a decent amount of miles waiting to be logged at the gym, I don’t regret a single bite. For now, I leave you with two things: the smell of melting chocolate floating through the kitchen and the image of little cookie clouds resting on your counter. How’s that for delicious?

Happy Friday!

17 Jul

Hey all! I hope you are enjoying your fridays and getting ready for the weekend. I’m planning on visiting San Francisco to escape the heat and get out of the city. If you aren’t doing anything, I highly suggest you checking out, “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince”. I saw it last night and wow! The set design, costumes, and general aesthetics were out of this world. Action-packed and humorous, it’s a great movie for all ages… Well, here is my flickr friday favorites. I hope you enjoy them as I did!
