a new ‘do

16 Jun

As you can see, things have been redesigned here at Slow Like Honey. About a month ago, I switched up the domain name, and forgot to mention that. Oops! If you need to update your RSS feeds, you should probably do so, but I’ve been assured that the old feed still works.

Around the same time, I fell on to Alyson’s website, Unruly Things, and fell head over heels for her simple yet whimsical designs. I asked her to whip me up a snazzy and somewhat girlie design and voila! She did everything that I wanted and more so.

If you are looking for a new header or any kind of graphic, check out Alyson’s designs. She won’t let you down. Plus, she started a nice little food blog, Milk Eggs Chocolate, that is as refreshing as the strawberries I dived in to last night (juicy, ripe and perfect by the way).

I felt so bad and guilty because a whole month had lapsed in between getting this new header and actually setting it up, but that’s what happens when schools and new jobs take over. I dedicated my entire Sunday to reworking this site, so bear with me. There are still some kinks that need to figured out so if things look slightly strange, don’t worry.

Lastly, I just wanted to let you guys know that the links to the left have been updated. New ones got added (Hello, Teri @ Fish Food, and Robin’s Food Porn Daily), old ones got deleted (farewell, my love tastespotting).

Phew, what an update. I think I need a nap. Or another cup of coffee.

love the teese

24 Apr

Red lipstick, perfectly coiffed hair, heels that can reach the sky, and of course, the flawless beauties who aren’t afraid to show their skin. These all describe the very essence of burlesque which is much more about channeling a woman’s power over a man than just prancing around in lacey undergarments. I read this article about Dita Von Teese at the NY Times and couldn’t help but think that she is an all around responsible and elegant performer and businesswoman.

In the past two years, my love for all things burlesque and vintage pin-ups has grown. My friend Anna first introduced me to Ms. Dita Von Teese and after reading her book, Burlesque: The Art of the Teese, I grew to adore and love this woman. A real class act, Dita made burlesque an art form and launched it from it’s assumed seedy roots. I like her even more now for going against the grain that the stars of Hollywood seem to be following.

off to see the wizard

27 Mar

I saw this on Cakespy’s Flickr photostream and fell in love. If you are anything like me, I adored The Wizard of Oz as a child and even today I like to sit and watch the film. I wanted to go a big adventure like Dorothy filled with noble friends, crazy characters, and evil villains. Jessie’s artwork is much like the film- whimsical and fresh. Check out her growing collection. I’m sure you will fall in love with it as much as I have!

the great american pinup

Over the weekend, I perused my local bookstore and fell upon this book, “The Great American Pinup,” which had some of the most beautiful pictures of classic American pin-up girls.

Lovely Link

Again, the crew over at Fashionista.com amaze me with the fashion round-ups. They discuss the issue about art as fashion, and if the two are interchangeable. Check it out

Side note, I love the bag that is with the post. So cute, and looks like it’d act like a fun grocery bag. It’s eco-friendly, AND cute.
